Arab Americans in Politics: Welcome to the Club—Sort Of
Arab Americans are finally getting a political platform in the Trump era. And by “getting a platform,” I mean being used as strategic props.
Michael Boulos, Trump’s son-in-law, is now an advisor on Middle Eastern affairs. Janette Nesheiwat has been nominated for U.S. Surgeon General. It’s all very diverse—until you remember Trump’s past Muslim bans and his casual support for bombing the Middle East.
It’s almost like representation means nothing if the policies stay the same. But hey, who needs meaningful change when you can get a nice photo op?
Meanwhile, Trump’s economic approval is free-falling. Maybe Arab Americans should advise him on that.
